NEW RIVER VALLEY REGIONAL JAIL

New River Valley Regional Jail Leverages Solar Technology to Offset Nearly One Third of Natural Gas Usage

DUBLIN, Va. (August 14, 2012) Baker Renewable Energy announced today it has installed the largest solar thermal system in Virginia at the New River Valley Regional Jail. This state-of-the-art, ground mount system consists of 138 collectors, the equivalence of 272 kW of photovoltaic energy. The structure will offset approximately 30 percent of the jail’s natural gas usage, and will provide 2.5 million gallons of hot water per year to the facility.

Baker Renewable Energy was selected by Mims Distributing to install a 321kWp DC system atop the roof of their Raleigh, NC Facility. Mims Distributing recently constructed their new location in North Raleigh to support their growing business. The facility was built using an array of sustainable building practices one of which was the installation of this thin film, building integrated, photovoltaic system.

JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY

James Madison University Wind System Stimulates Educational Program, Promotes Virginia Wind Industry

James Madison University recently installed a 120-foot-tall wind turbine as part of its Small Wind Training and Testing Facility, an educational initiative launched by the Virginia Center for Wind Energy (VCWE). The system is capable of producing 10,000-12,000 kWh of energy a year when operating at average annual wind speeds of 5 m/s, which is enough to power an aver-age-sized house for a year.

Baker Renewable Energy was selected by International Tool Steel to install a 49kW PV system atop the roof of their Greenville Facility. This PV installation was a part of a 20,000 sqft facility expansion to accommodate ITS’ growth, and hedge against rising energy costs impacting future operations. This installation will provide approximately 65,000kWh per year in annual offset; enough energy to power nearly 200 US homes over the course of its lifetime.

Baker Renewable Energy was selected by Custom Controls Unlimited to install a 76kW PV system atop the roof of their new Raleigh facility. This PV installation was part of a 15,000 Sq. Ft. expansion due to company growth, to better service to their clients and to hedge against rising energy costs. This installation will provide approximately 94,000kWh per year in annual offset and assist CCU in reaching their continued sustainability goals.
